Myanmar Agriculture occupies a place of prominence since it provides livelihood to the major segment of its population and supports overall development. Therefore, it was envisaged that propelling sustainable agricultural growth through the application of cutting-edge science and technology would substantially enhance farmers’ income in addition to ensuring food and nutritional security. With a view to achieve the same, a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Governments of India (GOI) and Republic of the Union of Myanmar for establishment of ACARE at Yezin Agricultural University Campus, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar was concluded during the visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Myanmar on May 28, 2012. The acute and immediate need for strengthening agricultural research, education and extension in Myanmar for the improvement of agricultural production and productivity was realized when a team of agricultural scientists led by Professor M.S.Swaminathan visited Myanmar during July 2011. Following the MOU, Advanced Center for Agricultural Research and Education (ACARE) was established in YAU to promote strong collaboration between leading agricultural institutions of India and Myanmar for the development of agricultural research, education and extension in the identified areas. ACARE shall work in close linkage with Department of Agricultural Research (DAR) and Department of Agriculture (DOA) of Myanmar.
