Abstract

Experiment was carried out to evaluate the biology and predation rate of Harmonia axyridis, Multicolored Asian Ladybird Beetle (MALB) and Coccinella transversalis, Transverse Ladybird Beetle (TLB) on aphids under laboratory condition (28 ± 1 °C and 60 ± 5 % RH) from January to April 2019 at Department of Entomology and Zoology, Yezin Agricultural University. In this study, the duration from egg to adult of MALB (17.9 ± 0.2 days) was not significantly different from TLB (17.9 ± 0.3 days). The male (46.7 ±1.3 days) and female (53.6 ± 0.9 days) longevity of MALB was not significantly different from male (45.4 ± 0.9 days) and female (55.3 ± 1.0 days) longevity of TLB. The fecundity of females was not significantly different between MALB (596.8 ± 65.7 eggs) and TLB (588.5 ± 41.7). Predation rates of both predatory ladybird beetles were significantly increased in the successive developmental stages. From larva to adult, MALB consumed 383 aphids meanwhile TLB consumed 371 aphids. This result indicated that MALB and TLB might be a good predator on aphids and can be exploited as biological control agents in pest management program.
